It is important to note that interior design no longer only deals with aesthetics and decoration. The interior designers of today are required to come up with designs that not only provide comfort in use, sustainability, and sensitivity to the environment. This has prompted the addition of climatic designs in interior design courses. The students in Interior design colleges in delhi like IVS school of art & design are exposed to the effect of climatic conditions such as temperature, sunlight, humidity, and wind on interior designs.
Climate-sensitive designs are those designs that are sensitive to external climatic conditions rather than relying on artificial means such as air conditioners, artificial light, and insulation. This allows interior designers to come up with designs that are not only sustainable and provide comfort in use but also provide comfort in use.
The first concept in climate-sensitive interior design that interior design students are exposed to is orientation and natural lighting. This concept helps interior design students to understand how interior spaces are influenced by the orientation of the building. For example, interior spaces are designed in a way that they are oriented to ensure that interior lighting is minimized. For example, interior spaces oriented towards the north are suitable for workspaces because they are able to provide diffused natural lighting. This helps interior design students to understand how interior spaces are influenced by natural lighting.
The next concept that students are exposed to is thermal comfort and natural ventilation. This concept is essential in climate-sensitive interior design because it helps interior design students to understand how interior spaces are influenced by natural ventilation. For example, students are exposed to how interior spaces are influenced by cross-ventilation. This helps interior designers to ensure that interior spaces are well ventilated to control temperature. Interior designers are also exposed to how interior elements influence natural ventilation in interior spaces.
Another factor which would have to be considered for the purpose of climate-responsive interior designing would be the materials. IVS school of art & design ensures that their students are educated about the materials that can be used for the purpose. For example, stones, clay, and wood would maintain the temperature inside the building. Such materials would be effective for use in hot climatic conditions, as they would absorb heat from the atmosphere the night before and would release the heat the next day. Similarly, the use of light shades would reduce the amount of heat that enters the building.

Interior design course would ensure that their students are educated about the use of shades and insulations for the interior of the building. Such insulations would include curtains, blinds, and louvers. Such materials would be effective for reducing the amount of heat that enters the building. Similarly, insulations would help in maintaining the temperature inside the building. Such would be effective ways of educating a student about the various ways in which the interior of a building could be designed, so that it could be enjoyed in various climatic conditions.
Sustainability is also related to the concept of climate-sensitive design. There are some interior design programs that are effective in promoting the concept of sustainability to their students. These are effective in reducing the negative impacts on the environment. Yet, they improve the quality of interior space. Therefore, it is evident that the concepts of sustainability and climate-sensitive design are being implemented and put into practice by the interior design programs. This is achieved by requiring the students to study and understand the site, climate, and orientation of the building before they proceed to the next step of designing their interior space. This enables them to know how they can incorporate the concept of climate-sensitive design into their work.
The concept of climate-sensitive design enables the future interior designers to look beyond the aesthetic qualities of interior space. At IVS school of art & design, the emphasis is on reaching the relationship between the climate and the interior space. Therefore, they are able to create interior space that is effective and sustainable. As sustainability becomes a key component of the world of design, it becomes a key component of the world of the next generation of interior designers.
